Logistics - the hero of a successful seismic campaign

The last three months have been crazy... good crazy. For whatever reason, things are busy, and our #customers are responding.

I was on a trip to watch my kids compete in their sport at a national level, and things were so crazy, I had to buy a printer and spend my evenings printing documents, signing shipping invoices, contracts, Letters of Intent...

And that's ok. I'm not complaining. As a small town boy, I am on board with 'Let's make hay while the sun is shining'

After the trip with my kids, I was feeling a little 'brain full', so I went to the white board, and started to write down all of the active shipments we were managing. As it turns out, we had 28 active cargo movements going at the same time. AT THE SAME TIME!

Yes, this is manageable. Yes, we have some of the best #logistics and #freightforwarder contacts in the world. But it did make us sit back and remember... logistics are the star of the seismic project. No matter if we are sending gear from a yard in Calgary 2 hours north to a crew, or if we are sending millions of tonnes of equipment from Norway to Dubai, if our logistics aren't managed carefully, and effectively, our projects don't have a chance.

Not every market is the same. Some of our shipping markets are heavy on documentation, and some are pretty easy. Some of our shipping markets are wet ink stamp only, and others manage efficient automated data systems. No matter what, we have found that active, proactive discussion, planning, and execution of any movement - from a small geophone tester, to a fleet of seismic vibrators, is critical.

We just quoted a turnkey crew setup for an amazing exploration company. They asked us to provide all of the assets, and to provide technical and engineering support to stand up the project, and to help with training and handover for the customer to stand on their own after a defined period.

That is music to our ears. Logistics are the #value add to our business. If we were to sell equipment, and not help to get it to where the customer needs it, we are doing our #customers a massive disservice.

So, would we ever want to be a logistics only service provider? No..

Would we ever want to be a technical management and support provider? Also no..

How come? We love seismic equiment way too much to dedicate all our time to logistics. Although as it happens, they go hand in hand.
